Branstad Calls For A State Summit To Prevent Bullying
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Terry Branstad is planning a second bullying prevention summit this November in Des Moines as he continues to push for changes after reforms he backed failed in the last legislative session.
Branstad announced Monday that a second Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit will be held Nov. 4.
He says the purpose of this year's event is to explore practical steps to address bullying.
Author Emily Bazelon will be the keynote speaker. She wrote a book about ending a culture of bullying.
The gathering comes after a bullying bill offered by Branstad failed to advance in the state House. The measure would have updated state guidelines for school districts to include bullying that occurs outside school on social media websites like Facebook.
