Fun with Food-On-A-Stick

As fair season is in full swing, you probably know that food is a main attraction.  Walk down any food area at a local fair and you are sure to find many options, especially foods that are skewered for easier eating while roaming around.  Food on-a-stick has a reputation for being unhealthy.  But enjoying a favorite food at the fair is a treat and is all about balance.  Knowing that it is fun to eat foods-on-a-stick once in a while, you might be inspired to try a little of that trend at home!

Lunch Is Served
Ditch the boring, traditional sandwich at lunch time and make a more exciting deconstructed lunch-on-a-stick. Learn how to give your regular lunch box a fair-based boost!
Pizza Pinwheel Pops
All you need:
1 (16-inch) pizza crust
1-1/2 cups mixed chopped vegetables (such as red onion, mushrooms and bell peppers)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Sliced Canadian bacon, if desired
All you do:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Spread pizza sauce over crust.  Top with vegetables, then shredded cheese.
  2. Lay slices of Canadian bacon over cheese, if using.  
  3. Carefully roll up tightly, as you would with cinnamon rolls, to create a “log” shape.
  4. Cut dough at ¾-inch intervals and lay flat on baking sheet. Bake in oven for 5 to 7 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
  5. Insert Popsicle sticks into sides of pizza rolls to create pinwheel pops.
