CDC Issues Warning During County Fairs
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a warning saying people at high risk of the flu should stay away from swine at county fairs.
At issue is a flu strain that is transmitted from sick pigs to people. Last year, a number of people were sickened at the Minnesota State Fair. The Dodge County Fair, which started Wednesday, says it is taking precautions so people don't get sick.
"We have hand washing stations and we have signs up from the health department encouraging people to wash their hands. We also have a veterinarian checking all the pigs."
The CDC says people that are high-risk should stay away from swine barns and pigs. Those includes children five and younger, people 65 and older, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions.
