UW Tuition Freeze to Include Out-of-State Students
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A tuition freeze at the University of Wisconsin System is being expanded to include both students from Wisconsin and out of state.
The UW Board of Regents was meeting Thursday to discuss expanding the freeze.
The proposal would broaden the two-year freeze to include out-of-state and graduate students.
UW spokesman David Giroux tells the Wisconsin State Journal that the university hopes to "sustain or grow the revenues that our campuses generate from nonresident and international students."
Regents originally proposed a 2 percent tuition hike in each of the next two years, but the Legislature mandated no increase after news broke that UW had a budget surplus that include nearly $650 million from tuition.
