(ABC 6 NEWS) – Twin brothers, Alex and Blake Petrik, are nine years old, just finished the 4th grade, and have run hundreds of miles together.
It started when they were first graders at Austin’s Banfield Elementary School, for something called Mileage Club.
“[Mileage Club] is an activity at Banfield where if you don’t want to do the other stuff, you can run around this track," Alex explained.
Together, during the 2012-13 school year, Alex and Blake clocked 308 miles. As part of the club, incentives are offered for different mileage amounts. They’ve been awarded t-shirts for hitting the 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 mile marks.
Aside from Mileage Club, the twin brothers/running partners have competed in eight 5k races, and plan to do more.
In addition to running, Alex and Blake swim, and play soccer and baseball.
