(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Gabe Kasak plays baseball with sheer grit and determination.
"I like to say I have a little tenacity," Kasak said.
The senior doesn't want to lose, and it shows each and every day.
"Gabe is really intense, he really expects a lot out of himself," Austin coach Troy Watkins said.
"I'm a competitive person and baseball is my love, so this is a game I want to win at," explained Kasak. "If I'm playing other games with friends, I still get intense too, but this is the one I'm passionate about."
This high standard of excellence has paid off for Gabe. He signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Sioux Falls back in April.
"He's been going to camps, clinics, and talking with coaches and he really knew what he wanted to do," said Watkins.
"You work hard and you do all this stuff and you do off season work and when you finally get to see it pay off and you actually go somewhere, go to college for it, is huge," said the senior.
Gabe doesn't see that as any reason to slack off, though.
"You want to be able to still be the best you can be whenever you can and so I've still been pushing pretty hard," he said.
Although his Packer playing days are numbered, the tenacity of this ball player has definitely made an impact.
