Blooming Prairie's Krejci is Twins honorary bat girl

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Cindy Owen nominated her sister Cheri Krejci to be the Honorary Twins Bat Girl tomorrow for one reason…her brave fight and victory over breast cancer.

"When my sister first told me she nominated me, she wanted to make it a surprise but I had to sign a waiver. So she had to tell me and I'm like 'are you kidding,'" said the breast cancer survivor.

"She's very deserving of it. She's fought the fight and she won. We're very proud of her and all that she's accomplished," said Cindy Owen, Cheri’s sister.

Cheri was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and has been cancer free for three years. It wasn't the family’s first time dealing with the disease though.

"Both of our parents died of cancer and I was there to help them through their journey and then got the word that I had cancer too," Krejci said.

Because the disease has so greatly affected Cheri's life, she is extremely active in the fight against it.

"It's just a cause that's really important to me, really close, so anything I can do to help bring awareness, that's what I love to do."

And the Twins took notice too. Cheri will throw out tomorrow's first pitch at Target Field.

"I throw really bad....so I'm really nervous about that," said Cheri.

Luckily, her son Aaron is a former Blooming Prairie pitcher who can give her some tips.

"We're going to have a little practice in the parking lot before we go in."

As cool as that experience will be, there's something else about tomorrow that really makes it special.

"Our parents have passed away both from cancer and then I got it, so for our family to all be together on Mother's Day and think of our mom who's not with us is cool," said Krejci.
