Operation Kidsafe Comes to Albert Lea
(ABC 6 NEWS)-- When a child is abducted, every minute that goes by is crucial to their recovery. Many parents in Albert Lea took the time today to be better prepared, should something like that ever happen to their child.
The feeling of losing a child is a nightmare that no parent wants to go through.
"They mean the world to me and you know if they are out of my sight for a few minutes I start panicking because I know what kind of people are out there,” said Todd Earl of Albert Lea.
Todd Earl is a dad of three little ones.
"You just never know, this is not just small town Albert Lea, this happens everywhere in every small town,” said Earl.
He's also the Deputy Sheriff of Freeborn County and has to deal with the danger of child abduction first hand.
"Quicker you react, the better chances there are of being able to find the child,” said Earl.
Operation Kidsafe is a program that gives parents the information they need, should their child ever become lost or abducted.
"Do everything we can for our children because the world is getting worse all the time,” said Wayne Petro of Operation Kidsafe.
Using digital technology, a photo is taken and fingerprints of each hand are captured. From there, a copy of the child's identification is printed.
"You can also scan this into your computer. That way no matter where you travel you can access it from a computer or from any smart phone, smart device,” said Petro.
Having identification will help generate an Amber Alert and an FBI file to get the information out there as quickly as possible.
"I've seen incidents where it's happened to other kids and there was no finger prints stuff like that to go by,” said Jennifer Cole of Albert Lea.
Many parents like Todd Earl, want to do as much as possible to secure their child's safety.
"A way to be prepared for you know keeping your kids safe prepared for the future of what couple happen, you just never know,” said Earl.
Operation Kidsafe is based out of Springfield Illinois and this is the first time organizers of have come to the Albert Lea area.
