Light Rail Back Up and Running After Construction Incident

Part of the Hiawatha Light Rail Line is back up and running after it was shut down for four hours Thursday morning.

A crane at a construction site near the Nicollet Mall Station at 5th and Nicollet hit the overhead power system damaging a support piece around 8:30 a.m., according to Metro Transit.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The incident left the downtown area trains with no power. Repairs were made and power was restored around 12:45 p.m.

"We anticipate trains to be fully back on schedule for the evening commute," said Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland.

Buses were brought in to operate between Target Field and Metrodome/Downtown East stations for light rail passengers.

A detour was also in place for traffic and buses running on Marquette Ave. during the repair.
