Bold Thieves Steal Truck From Police Impound Lot
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Committing any kind of crime is always a risky move, but when the target of that crime is the sheriff's department, well, risky doesn't even begin to cover it.
Sometime between late Friday night and early Saturday morning an unknown suspect broke into the police impound lot in Dodge County and stole a vehicle right from under the cops' noses.
The vehicle was impounded just days earlier because of its involvement in an alleged felony theft.
The suspect or suspects cut a large hole in the lot's fence and apparently drove across a neighboring field to get away.
Authorities said whoever took the vehicle definitely had some guts.
“They're brave enough to do anything if they're willing to cut through a fence at a police impound lot,” Dodge County Sheriff Jim Jensen said.
Authorities said the fairly secluded lot is patrolled regularly. Stealing an impounded car is considered a crime the same way as if it were stolen off the street.
The vehicle is described as a rust orange 2005 King Ranch Crew Cab F350 with license YAZ3835.
Police are still investigating the incident and authorities are asking anyone with information about the vehicle's whereabouts to contact the Dodge County Sheriff's Department at (507) 635-6200.
