Millville Woman Wins $1 Million
(ABC 6 News) - The Minnesota Lottery has identified the Winona county resident who won $1 million as part of the $587.5 million Powerball drawing on November 28th.
Sandy Webster, of Millville, picked 5 of the winning numbers, but didn't connect on the Powerball number itself. As a result, Webster won $1 million. She only purchases Powerball tickets occasionally and only when the jackpot is very big.
On Nov. 28, Webster stopped at the Kwik Trip, on 6th Street in St. Charles, to purchase some cookies for her kids and since the Powerball jackpot was at a record amount, she made a spur of the moment decision to also purchase one ticket. She put that ticket in her purse and didn’t think of it again until a few days later when she was at another lottery retailer filling her car’s gas tank.
When she went into the store to pay for the gas, Webster asked the sales clerk to check the ticket for her. “She said, ‘Sandy, you won big!’ I said yeah, right. And she said, ‘No, I’m serious, you won big!’”
Webster didn’t find out how much she won until she got home and checked the Lottery’s website. “We still didn’t believe it,” she recalled.
Webster’s quick-pick Powerball ticket matched the first five numbers drawn on Nov. 28 to win $1 million. The winning Powerball numbers on Nov. 28 were 5-16-22-23-29 and the Powerball number was 6.
