Austin, JM hold first practices

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Big things are expected of the Austin Packers and John Marshall Rockets this boys basketball season - for entirely different reasons.

The Packers are the defending Big 9 champs, and ran through Section 1AAA last year on their way to the state tournament.

The Rockets picked up a new head coach - Kirk Thompson. He comes from PEM, where he led the Bulldogs to a state title last season.

Austin opens their 2012-2013 schedule at Kasson-Mantorville a week from Saturday, while JM plays at Farmington a week from Friday.
