1st Ski Slope to Open for the Winter
A Minnesota Ski Slope has laid claim to being the first to open in North America.
Wild Mountain in Taylor's Falls opened one and a half runs and two rope tows Sunday, more than two weeks before its previous earliest opening date. Wild Mountain's Vice President Amy Frischmon says the ski hill typically opens at the end of October, "In 1992, we opened October 18th, which was the earliest open we've ever had."

Dan Raedeke is President of Wild Mountain, he credits low temps and high tech for the early start, "About 12:30 this morning we started turning the snow guns on, made snow for about 8 hours and we were able to open."
Bill Chopp from Prior Lake had other plans for the day, "My buddy called me this morning, I was just getting ready to hang out for the day. He told me he was going to come up here and so some snowboarding. I had my golf clubs in my car, thought about going golfing."
