IBM Helps Bear Creek Services with Playground

(ABC 6 News) -- Bear Creek Services received some helping hands from IBM Friday. Each year the a group of IBM workers take a break from their day job to help out.

"We do staining of decks, we do painting, we trim trees, we do exterior work," said volunteer Kevin Johnson.

For nine years the group has used this day to help Bear Creek Services a non-profit that operates group homes and programs for the developmentally disabled.

"To volunteer your time and be able to help theses non-profits, because they don't have the man power or money to do it,” said Johnson.

“We're just grateful for the volunteers with this particular project they do amazing work in our community," said Pam Alberts of Bear Creek Services.

This year they are helping Bear Creek Services put in a brand new sand box. A job that will save them thousands of dollars.

The improvements are sure to make their kids in the after school program very happy.

"This playground means everything to these kids, they come out here after a long day of school and they'll play out here for hours," said Alberts.

"They enjoy just the simple things in life and that's something that we need to understand," said Johnson.

While this day off from IBM may be full of hard work, the volunteers says it's well worth it.

"Volunteering your time is a special thing and it's a thing you should do,” said Johnson.

Bear Creek Services provides care to more than 50 adults with disabilities.
