(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It was a long time coming for Lyle/Pacelli.
"It was a big game. I haven't had one of those in a long time, especially on Homecoming," L/P running back Garrett Lester said.
The Athletics ended a 13-game losing streak with a 50-44 win over Lanesboro last week. It was their first win in nearly two years, and their first HOMECOMING win since 2007.
"It was awesome. To go over and shake the other team's hands, and turn around and see our fans and parents and students storming the field, it put into perspective just how hungry everybody was for this," L/P coach Reid Olson said.
Lester rushed for 189 yards, and scored four times, including once on a 84-yard kickoff return in the third quarter.
"There were a lot of momentum swings, and through most of the night, we had the momentum. Scoring a lot of touchdowns helped, got everyone psyched up and ready to go," Lester said.
"It was a breakout game for Garrett, but it was a breakout game for everybody, I felt," Olson said.
The Athletics have a chance to run their win streak to two this week, as the Mabel-Canton Cougars visit Lyle.
"We feel we should be competitive Friday night against Mabel-Canton," Olson said.
"Expectations are really high. It's definitely going to be a good game," Lester said.
