Police Reveal New Details in Mpls. Workplace Shooting

Investigators are providing more details about the violence that took place at a neighborhood sign company where five people were fatally shot before the gunman took his own life.

Chronology of Events in Accent Signage Shooting

Minneapolis Police released a document listing the chronology of events in the shooting. 

According to the document, Andrew Engeldinger was asked to come to a meeting in John Souter's office toward the end of the workday Thursday.

Engeldinger went out to his car before the meeting.

He then met with Souter and Rami Cooks. He was fired, and received his final paycheck. That's when Engeldinger pulled out a gun, and the three men began to struggle over the weapon.

Souter and Cooks were both shot inside the office.

Engeldinger then reloaded and stepped out of the office. Reuven Rahamin stepped out of his office nearby, and was shot.

Engeldinger walked toward the sales staff's cubicles and shot Jacob Beneke in the display area.

He then walked to the loading dock area where he shot Ron Edberg and UPS driver Keith Basinski who was standing in his truck.

Engeldinger fired shots at two other employees. He grazed one, and hit Eric Rivers.

Engeldinger walked to the basement, where he apparently fatally shot himself. Officers found his body and the Glock 9mm gun.

Victims

Souter and Rivers were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where they are currently being treated.

Cooks was taken to HCMC where he later died.

Rahamin, Beneke, Edberg, and Basinski died at the scene.

The person grazed by the bullet was taken to HCMC, where they were treated and released. That person's identity has not been released.

Suspect

Police say they have no information that Engeldinger threatened anyone at the business in the time leading up to the shootings. During the course of his employment, managers had counseled Engeldinger about his performance and lateness.

A week before the shooting Engeldinger had been reprimanded in writing. He was told that his performance must improve, or he would be terminated.

Police say Engeldinger had purchased the gun legally. He had no criminal record.
