Arrest Made in Kutzky Park Sex Assaults

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It's a big break in an ongoing investigation as officers arrest the man they say is responsible for a sex assault in the Kutzky Park neighborhood.

The 17-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday night.

Police were able to gather significant evidence from multiple sources all linking him to the latest sex assault in Kutzky Park.

Investigators also think he could've been involved in the other cases in the neighborhood.

Wednesday night Rochester Police held a question and information session regarding these sex assaults.

Over 75 neighbors showed up. All of them can now breathe a sigh of relief that a man is in custody.

"The thought of hearing it really puts a fear in me," one neighbor says recalling the assaults.

"It's scary," another neighbor says.

A scary thought to have someone break into your home, even scarier when the motivation is purely sexual.

For Rochester Police, the clock is ticking.

"The individual will be held pursuant to the apprehension order for up to 72 hours," Rochester Police Captain Brian Winters says.

Thanks to a probation violation from a previous crime, police are able to keep the 17-year-old suspect in custody for 72 hours.

Time they'll spend building a case.

"We're confident that a link can be made drawn between this suspect in custody and the most recent sexual assault in the Kutzky Park neighborhood," says Winters.

Investigators also think their suspect may be responsible for the other recent assaults in that neighborhood.

A neighborhood that has banded together against a common enemy.

"Fighting for our neighborhood and making it safe," says Neighborhood Association Member Susan Todzy.

"It could have been my wife. It could have been my immediate neighbors that live in the condos that i live in. I don't want that happening to anyone," neighbor Benjamin Chickox explains.

Police are confident that charges will be filed before that 72 hour period is over.

They'll continue to investigate to try and link him to the other assaults as well.

Police say charges could be filed as soon as Thursday or possibly Friday morning.
