3 Robberies Reported Near U of M Campus

Three robberies have been reported this week near the University of Minnesota campus, and University Police are warning students to stay vigilant.

Two students were walking near the University Technology Center when they were punched in the face and head. It happened near the intersection of 14th Avenue and Sixth Street Southeast Thursday around 12:45 a.m.

According to the crime alert, the two men walked up to the students, attacked them, and stole a purse. The assault prompted the U of M to issue a crime alert – the second one since school started. In the alert, police said it was the third crime of its kind since Sunday.

On Sunday, police say a man hit a student in the face and knocked him to the ground around 2 a.m. between Territorial Hall and the intersection of 17th Avenue and Third Street in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood.

The robber, who was with another man who didn’t actively take part in the crime, took the student’s iPhone and money.
