More News And Changing Faces On ABC 6 NEWS
ABC 6 News is proud to announce the expansion of its morning news programming. Beginning Monday, September 10 viewers in Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea and all towns in between can wake up with ABC 6 News Good Morning starting at 5 a.m. “Our commitment to the audience is stronger than ever and we are excited to start our day a half-hour earlier,” says News Director David Springer. “We know your day is starting earlier and now you can count on ABC 6 News to be there when you wake up. We’ll let you know what happened since you went to bed and what you can expect for the day ahead. This expansion enables us to deliver more local, national and world news; get you up to speed on what people are talking about; and give you more opportunities to catch Weather on the Sixes.” When you tune in at 5 a.m. September 10 you will see some familiar faces that you may not be used to seeing in the mornings.
We are pleased to announce that Ellery McCardle will join Kenny King as co-anchor of ABC 6 News Good Morning. You’ll recognize Ellery from ABC 6 News Weekend, where she has been overseeing and anchoring our news coverage. Ellery joined the ABC 6 News family in January 2010 and in 2011 she was awarded a first place Page One honor from the Society of Professional Journalists for her story “The Journey of a Purple Heart”. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tampa, Florida with a major in Communications and minors in Journalism and Writing. Ellery is excited to bring her passion and excitement for telling stories to the anchor desk every Monday through Friday morning.

He is a graduate of St. Cloud State University with a B.S. Degree in Atmospheric Sciences. Before joining ABC 6, he worked at KEVN in Rapid City South Dakota and interned at our sister station, KSTP-TV, in the Twin Cities. We are also pleased to announce Meteorologist Chris Kuball has been promoted to ABC 6 Chief Meteorologist. Viewers have come to trust Chris and his forecasting abilities on ABC 6 News Good Morning and now catch him weeknights on ABC 6 News at 5, 6 & 10 PM. He has been a dedicated member of the ABC 6 Storm Tracker Team since 2007 and earned viewer trust for his accuracy and forecasting during a wide range of severe weather events. Chris has a B.S. Degree in Meteorology from Iowa State University and gained experience at KCCI-TV in Des Moines. Chris will make the switch to spending mornings with his son and wife Tiffany and his nights with Betsy Singer, James Wilcox Laura Lee and you!
So what motivated all these big changes on one day? Springer explains, “The ball started rolling when Rusty Dawkins and Melanie Bloom announced they had an offer too good to refuse to move back to Nebraska. Since they are married, it meant the ABC 6 News would lose two key members of the team at the same time. Rusty and Melanie have been an integral part of our success at ABC 6 News and will be missed. They helped us raise the bar and because of that we were able to look inside our own newsroom and promote three terrific people who strive to be their best every day.” Springer goes on to say, “While viewers will see some changes to our talent lineup, our commitment to the viewer has not and will not change. We are fully committed to informing, educating and protecting the people in every community we serve.”
Expect more exciting announcements about our weekend news and weather team soon. In the meantime, be sure to watch ABC 6 News Good Morning with Kenny King, Ellery McCardle and Jim Peterson on September 10th beginning at 5 a.m.
