More Ready than Not for School

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Labor day means different things to different people- but ask any kid in Minnesota, and they'll tell you it signals the end of summer. Tomorrow class is back in session, but are local kids ready?
As summer slides into fall, 4-year-old Lauren and her family are spending their last day of summer preparing for the first day of school.
"We can't wait because Lauren's been so excited and waiting for this day," said her dad, Brian Kim.
Tuesday she starts pre-kindergarten at Primrose, a place her parents are happy to send her to.
"Lauren has become much more social, grown up quite a bit, It's paving the way for our other children," said Kim.
Fourth-grader Myriam Lorenzo is also happy to be heading back to school, so she can get back to her favorite subjects.
"I really like just math and spelling cause you really need it when you're an adult," she said.
And of course, the last day of summer wouldn't be complete without last minute school supply shopping.
"We just got the school supplies," said Dr. Tsfay Yohannes.
The Yohannes family is fresh off vacation, but their trunk is now full of pens, pencils, and notebooks.
"It's a once a year kind of thing so, kind of excited," added Yohannes.
And while the grades of the kids may differ,"5th, 8th, 5th, 6th." They all agree that they love gym class and,"lunch, lunch, lunch, going home, going home, lunch."
Like hundreds of others, they're heading to Sunset Terrace and John Marshall.
"I'm excited for them to go to school and be free a little bit," said Yohannes.
But he won't let them go without a treat.
"The best part is, I'm gonna treat them for lunch. Where we going? Applebees." he said.
And little Lauren Kim's family, won't let her go without a little fun.
"We're getting really sweaty at the park and having a good time," said Kim.
While tomorrow is the first day for most local students, kids in Iowa, and Catholic school students have been in class for a couple weeks already.
