Rochester's "Highly Gifted" 4-year-olds Can Start School

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Rochester Public School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow highly gifted 4-year-olds to start Kindergarten.

Under the new policy, parents who think their kids qualify can register them. The children will then go through psychological and social evaluations and a performance test. A team of district professionals will make the final decision.

So far, only one 4-year-old has gone through and passed the required testing. It's the same child whose parents pushed for the change.

At this point, it's too late for your child to go through the testing and start kindergarten on time this Fall. But you should contact the district if you're interested because there's a possibility your child could start later in the school year.
