Reward Offered After Dead Cat Discovered at Mpls. Park

A reward is being offered for information after a dead cat was burned and staked to a tree with an American flag. There was also an Obama yard sign lying near the animal.

A park employee discovered the cat in Longfellow Park in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Federated Humane Societies is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of the cat.

MFHS General Counsel Representative Tim Shields said, "This despicable act of animal cruelty will not go unpunished. Those responsible for this cruel, torturous death of a house pet will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

It's unclear if the display was a prank or a threat, but the timing may not be a coincidence. The recreation building at the park is being used as a polling place in Tuesday's primary election.

Anyone with information is asked to call MFHS at 612-866-8663.

A spokesperson from the Secret Service says they are monitoring the situation and will take action if necessary.

There have been no other similar cases this campaign season.
