Crews Remove Pipe Bomb From Vehicle at Mayo Clinic Campus
Traffic near the Mayo Clinic was diverted Thursday as authorities removed a 3-foot-long pipe bomb from the trunk of a vehicle.
Authorities say the 50 to 60 pound pipe with caps on each end and a wick was removed from a vehicle inside the Generose Building parking ramp on the Saint Marys Hospital campus.
Crews used the jaws of life to open the trunk of the vehicle, then took the bomb to a safe location to detonate it.
Mayo officials said there was no stated threat to the facility and no patients or staff were at risk.
Authorities cleared the scene by early evening. They are continuing to investigate how the pipe bomb got into the parking ramp.
