Rose Anderson

(ABC 6 News) -- This week's Excellent Educator comes to us from Byron. As the school year wraps up, it's bittersweet for Mrs. Rose Anderson's too as it's her last week teaching.

For the last 24 years Mrs. Rose Anderson has been teaching special education in Byron.  But after injuring her back in a serious car accident this past winter, Mrs. Rose made a tough decision --- to retire.

"Part of the injury was no lifting, no bending, no getting on the floor and that's everything I do with the students," says Anderson.

Although, she will no longer technically teach, she wants to remain in the school district.

"My love would be to be a paraprofessional, I just love working with kids," she says.

"I have walked away with an incredible love for kids with all kinds of gifts and I am honored to be able to work with them and share a little bit of life with them," says Anderson.

"It's been an incredible journey."
