Tricia DeBoer

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Blooming Prairie softball team is trying to repeat last year's performance, when the Awesome Blossoms reached the state tournament.

"We have a strong core of seniors, who've been with the program a long time," Blooming Prairie coach Ali Mach said.

Tricia DeBoer is one of those seniors.

A former outfielder, DeBoer is making her mark at third base.

"She's been a real spark plug for us on the infield, which I knew she could do," Mach said. "She's played ball for so long that she could play anywhere."

DeBoer spent her first year on varsity at the age of 14. She's now a senior leader, fulfilling the same role her sister did several years ago.

"Now I'm the big senior," DeBoer said. "Hopefully, we can go far in the playoffs and go out with a bang."

As a leadoff batter, DeBoer knows if she gets on base, she has a good chance of crossing home.

"I feel pretty good about the rest of our lineup. They normally drive me in," DeBoer said.

Blooming Prairie plays Chatfield in the Section 1A finals Thursday at Todd Park in Austin.
