Local Vikes fan wins contest, meets Favre
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Following Brandon Lawhead into his basement is an adventure.
It's a man cave dedicated to the Minnesota Vikings.
Jerseys, footballs, bobbleheads - you name it, he's got it.
"My wife let me decorate one room in this house when we bought it...she is regretting that decision," says Lawhead.
Lawhead's love for the Vikings and admiration for Brett Favre made the call he got in November of 2010 almost unbelievable. Not only was he going to get to meet his idol, he was going to interview him in a commercial for Wrangler Jeans.
Brandon's essay about playing pickup football in Austin as a kid caught the attention of Wrangler and made him just the guy they wanted for the commercial.
"I thought my friends were playing a hoax on me," Lawhead said. "I had told a few of them I had written this little thing up, but I have never won anything in my life, you see, so I was cautiously optimistic."
The optimism paid off when Brandon was flown to North Carolina for the interview. It started running in April and he still talks fondly of the player he has always respected.
"There's an honesty to him (Favre). The honesty is he'll say whatever he's feeling, he's just a regular old person," said Lawhead.
