Live in Albert Lea - Good Morning America & ABC 6 NEWS
Sam Champion, Weather Anchor on the award winning ABC Good Morning America program will be live in Albert Lea this Wednesday along with local ABC 6 Good Morning Anchor Melanie Bloom and Meteorologist Steve Sosna. Champion will focus on the distinction of Albert Lea being the first city in the United States to be selected for the AARP/Blue ZonesŪ Vitality Project. Viewers can look forward to on-the-scene coverage and interviews with local Blue Zone representatives. The location for the live event has not yet been determined, but ABC 6 News will continue to update our viewers with the latest information and details on Sam Champion's visit to Albert Lea in all of our newscasts.
ABC 6 News Director Mike Schram notes, "We have been following the Vitality Project story since the Albert Lea kick-off in January. We now have this exciting opportunity to take the story to a national level with Sam Champion and Good Morning America. Our News team will be working side-by-side with Sam Champion for in-depth coverage of the Blue Zone Vitality project story on Wednesday."
Albert Lea is immersed in an innovative pilot project backed by extensive research. It is designed to improve the health and life expectancy of people who live and work in the city with the goal of adding at least 10,000 years of projected life expectancy to the participants (at least two years per person) through environmental and individual changes. The Blue Zone Vitality project draws on some of the practices found in the world's longest-lived populations, strategies such as making it easier to get around on foot or bike, encouraging the development of social networks, and providing healthier fast-food options rather than focusing only on diet and exercise.
